A vision for a better future
Grant Mete, Director of GM Rail introduced the 2024 Sustainability Commitment Statement saying “Even with rail being a very sustainable form of travel and freight, especially given the durability of GM’s quality work, there is more we can be doing. Identifying the opportunities to become more sustainable has been our first step in a renewed business direction”.
Regularly reviewing our supply chain, procurement and strategic direction with a sustainability lens is crucial to success with sustainability. Being able to update clients with any challenges as well as proposing ideas for innovative solutions is something we believe will help us all understand and share in the positive outcomes together. It also empowers our clients to meet their own sustainability goals.
Measuring our organisation’s progress and contribution towards the social, economic and environmental wellbeing will be a new and ongoing long-term process.
We anticipate that as we gain insights and refine our strategies, these processes will become more streamlined, ensuring our sustained commitment to sustainability aligns with best practices and positively impacts the communities we serve.
Whilst we plan for the decades ahead, it is clear there are things we can do today to minimise our environmental impact, here’s what’s in the works:
● Collaborating and Compliance with federal and state regulatory authorities and meeting any requirements and legislation required
● Minimising pollution and waste: by developing waste reduction and recycling programs for materials used within our offices
● Understanding and mitigating financial and physical climate risks, by actively reviewing GM Rail’s carbon emissions
● Community Engagement and ensuring we create strong connections by actively engaging in the communities we operate and creating positive impacts by support local initiatives.
● Training and Awareness Programs and raising awareness for GM Rail team members on environmental and sustainable best practices
